Cleaning Your Hottub Filters

Cleaning Your Hottub Filters

If it's been over 30 days since you last cleaned your hot tub filters, or if you're encountering a hot tub flo error, this step-by-step instructional video will walk you through the process of cleaning your hot tub filters. The cleaning procedure for swim spa filters is identical.

In this concise video, our HydroSpring Spas TV Host, Maddiy, provides comprehensive guidance on the best practices for cleaning hot tub filters, selecting the appropriate filter cleaner, and understanding when not to use a filter cleaner. Common hot tub error codes related to spa filters, such as the hot tub flo error and the Dr code, are also discussed.

Steps to Clean Your Hot Tub Filter

You might wonder why cleaning your filter is necessary. A dirty filter diminishes pump performance, complicates water maintenance, and in some cases, prevents the heater from functioning.

These issues may manifest as error messages on your control panel; for touch screen systems, you might see indications of low water flow or heater dryness. Alternatively, for spas without touch screens, error codes like HL, LF, Dr, or Dy may appear.

Conversely, a clean filter facilitates superior filtration, simplifies water maintenance, and ensures your hot tub is always ready for use.

The frequency of filter cleaning depends on several factors. Firstly, consider your water source. If you've recently refilled your hot tub, it's advisable to clean the filters within a few days to eliminate any contaminants from the source water. To prolong the interval between cleanings, use a pre-filter attached to your garden hose during refills. Additionally, if your HydroSpring Spas receives frequent use, more frequent filter cleanings are necessary. Under normal circumstances, we recommend cleaning your filter about once a month.

Here's what you'll need for this straightforward task:

- Garden hose
- Bucket
- Filter cleaner
- Towel

First, turn off the power to your HydroSpring Spas hot tub to prevent debris from being pulled into the filter fitting.

Next, remove the spa filters. Depending on your model, your HydroSpring Spas may have one, two, or three filters. Set aside any larger debris like leaves before spraying down the filter to remove heavier items. Then, fill a five-gallon bucket with water and the appropriate dosage of filter cleaning agent (available from your local dealer). Allow the filter to soak overnight.

While the filter is soaking, rinse the EcoPur Charge filter thoroughly, ensuring no residual cleaner remains to prevent foaming when reintroduced into the spa. For a quicker cleaning option, your local dealer may offer a spray cleaning method, which can be performed one or two times a month before the thorough cleaning.

The outer filter can be cleaned and reused multiple times, with a lifespan of at least a year with proper care. However, the EcoPur filter should never be cleaned with chemical solutions, as this compromises its mineral content. Instead, simply rinse it. The EcoPur filter should be replaced every six months.
